How much does therapy cost in Salt Lake City, and does insurance cover it?

Therapy costs in Salt Lake City vary widely: insurance co-pays could be as low as $20–$30 per session, while some private pay providers may charge $200 or more per appointment. Many fully licensed therapists in the Salt Lake City area have rates around $150 per session for clients who are paying out of pocket, though some charge more or less depending on specialties, experience, session length, and therapy type (individual, couples, or family). Some providers also offer sliding scale pricing, which can reduce the cost of therapy.

If you have insurance, your plan may cover some mental health services if your therapist is in-network. Some insurances also provide reimbursement for out-of-network providers if you submit a receipt (called a “superbill”) after your session. You can call your insurance company to confirm your benefits. While insurance can make therapy more affordable, it often limits the number of sessions and type of care your therapist can provide.

I am a private pay therapist, which means I do not bill insurance directly. If you have out-of-network benefits, we can submit superbills through a platform called Thrizer, which handles all of the coordination and reimbursement with your insurance company. You can learn more about the cost of therapy with me, including my sliding scale options, on my Fees & Insurance page. We can also discuss your specific situation during a free consultation call.
